SCU-LAN10

I came close to buying an SCU-LAN10 network interface to go with my FTdx101D when I first purchased the radio. But when I researched the box, I understood that Yaesu had not released an API to permit third party applications to use it, and had limited the application that they supply to speech telephony only.

A few years later, AI coding agents like Claude have developed beyond all expectations. I had seen a few comments on the web which suggested that other owners of the radio had had some success in reverse engineering the network protocol and I decided to risk the money, buy my own SCU-LAN10 and see how far I could get with it.

It has been a bit of an uphill struggle, and it is still not perfect, but after around three weeks working with Claude, I now have a working API and 101Cats can operate my radio over a network connection pretty well. Claude is clever, but not a magician, and the internet restrictions that made Yaesu so wary of releasing a version of their application with an interface that is usable by applications such as WSJT-X still apply. But my experiments show that it is possible to do a lot, and I have successfully run WSJT-X over internet links including relatively slow 4G connections.

At this stage, I would not encourage anyone to run out and buy a SCU-LAN10 solely on the promise that 101Cats will support it. The latest versions of 101Cats V2 do a decent job of it and are very usable. but the audio still fragments sometimes and I don't know how long it will be before I get that fixed. But if you have a SCU-LAN10 and are willing to experiment. I would welcome test reports. I will expand this page soon with installation and configuration instructions.
